AI Coding Tools
Coding tools have moved from autocomplete to agents that edit across files, run commands and open pull requests. That shift changes what matters: the question is no longer suggestion quality but how much context the tool has and how much you can verify before it acts.
Editor integration is usually the deciding factor. A tool that lives where you already work gets used; one that needs a separate window does not, however good the model behind it is.
What to check before you commit
- How it handles repository context - whole project or just the open file
- Whether changes are reviewable before they are applied
- Data handling, especially for proprietary or client codebases
- Whether pricing is per seat, per request or usage-based
