Benchmarks should be treated carefully. Published scores are measured under specific conditions that may not resemble your workload, and the gap between models is often smaller than the leaderboard suggests.
What to check before you commit
- Whether benchmark sources are cited and reproducible
- Real cost per million tokens, including output tokens
- Rate limits and reliability, not just headline capability
- Whether missing data is shown as unknown or quietly estimated
